Waterjet Cutting Services

FLOW Waterjet

Acclaimed for its power, speed, and versatility, ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) waterjet technology is the fastest growing major machine tool process in the world. Manufacturers realize greater efficiency and productivity by implementing UHP waterjets into their operations. Since abrasive waterjet (AWJ) technology was first invented by Flow in 1979, the technology has quickly evolved. Now, waterjets can quickly and accurately cut virtually any material: stone, composites, steel, and exotic metals. In addition, waterjets cut with a narrow kerf and can produce net-shape parts with no heat-affected zone, heat distortion, or mechanical stresses. This produces higher quality parts at a significant cost savings.

The Flow Waterjet owned by bo-mar has a Dynamic Head and a 6½’ x 12’ Table. The Dynamic Head allows cuts to be perpendicular with no taper. This prevents the need for a secondary set up for any non-planer cuts that may be required.

Waterjets enable you to cut a variety of materials with ease from 1/16 inch (1 mm), to over 8 inches (200 mm) thick into any shape in a single step. A pure waterjet can rapidly cut soft materials such as rubber, cork, and foam. bo-mar is able to use the Flow waterjet to cut without heat and leave a clean edge, eliminating the need for secondary finishing. The end product results in a superior surface, faster, and with less cost.

Surface Quality vs. Cost

Block A was cut out in 270 seconds, Block B in 300 seconds, and Block C in 422 seconds. While each block measures within +/-0.005 of the specification, they vary in surface quality. Knowing this can be helpful in determining cost trade-offs for your particular application. By specifying what quality you need on each surface, you can optimize the cost of parts produced on the Waterjet.
