About Us
History
bo•mar Industries was established in November of 1991. The owners, Bob Buchanan and Mark Buchanan, began work in a 1000 square foot section of their father's pole barn. The brothers had built up a working machine shop over some twenty years of restoring and racing automobiles. Both brothers had worked in and around engineering and manufacturing and decided in 1991 to forego employment with Amtrak and try to make their dream of owning a metal fabrication shop come true.
After four years of working in "the barn" they ventured out and rented a 6,000 square foot building in 1995. That year they also purchased their first laser machine, press brake, and shear. 6,000 turned into 12,000 square feet and eventually 18,000 square feet was used for bo•mar. Still growing, bo•mar purchased their own 38,000 square feet building in 2000. There are now more than 40 employees and two additional lasers. Now laser cutting is one of the core services offered by bo•mar. The early years were based solely on customers in rail transportation. Today very little of their work is based around rail. bo•mar is now ISO 9000-9001 certified and serves industries such as aerospace, automotive, racing, and architectural, as well as other diverse businesses.
